We have been checking out some second hand and overstock building supply places to save money on the addition. We have found some winners and some that are not so good.
On Thursday we visited the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store off Central in Phoenix. They had a separate room for antiques which was nice, but we weren’t looking for antiques. The rest of the building was smallish and had more furniture and lighting then building supplies. They did have some cabinets, doors, tile, appliances, and windows, but not as many as some of the other places we visited. They had an aisle of nails and hardware, but we have plenty of nails from what I have picked up from the workmen.
On Friday we visited Stardust Building Supply at 43rd Avenue and Camelback. It was bigger and had way more stuff then the Habitat store. They had tons of cabinets, doors, windows, lights, tile, granite, sinks and toilets. They had a bigger warehouse space with an outdoor portion also. I was more impressed with this place, but it’s not close to our house.
The last place we visited was Building Material Outlet (BMO) in Phoenix whose tagline is ‘The handmans candy store’ And it is so true. This place is huge and has an amazing selection of everything you’d need for your house. They had tons or doors, windows, cabinets, trim, granite, sinks, lights and tile, granite and I saw some laminate flooring too. They have tons of rocks and outdoor stuff too. And as a huge bonus they have a good website. I was so impressed with this place and will definitely be visiting it again soon
So from our tour of these discount building supply places I was blown away by Building Material Outlet. Stardust was pretty good, but since it’s farther from us the BMO we probably won’t be there again soon unless we happen to be in the area. Habitat is close to hubby’s work so that’s a definate maybe.
I do know that stock changes quickly at all of these places and I’m sure every time you visit you will see something new and the inventory will be different.
